Christmas will be here before you know it. So, I’ve decided to write down and post this free pattern for a small crochet stocking.
These are great to give as little gifts, stocking stuffers or to use as package decorations. They measure about 7-8 inches in height.
I usually use three different colors to make stockings. You can use more colors or make a solid one. There are many possibilities!
Crochet Stocking:
H Hook
R1 – CH 3 and join to form a small circle. SC six times in the ring. Join and CH 1.
R2 – SC twice in each stitch around. Join and CH 1.
R3 – SC, SC and then 2 SC in the next stitch. Continue until you reach the end. Join and CH 1.
R4 – SC, SC and then 2 SC in the next stitch. Continue until you reach the end. Join and CH 1.
R5 thru R11 – SC in each stitch around. On R11, join and tie off.
R12 – Join a new color and….. SC in the first fourteen stitches. CH 1 and turn. (This begins to form the heel)
R13 thru R17 – SC in each stitch across. CH 1 and turn.
R18 – SC in each stitch across. Tie off and leave a long end. Use this long end to sew the back heel together. Turn the work right side out. When the heel is completed, then you can make the top portion of the stocking.
R19 thru R23 – Join new color and SC in each stitch around. Join and CH 1.
R24 thru R28 – Join new color and SC in each stitch around. Join and CH 1.
R29 thru R33 – Join new color and SC in each stitch around. Join and CH 10. SS back into the same stitch to form the “hanging loop”. Tie off….. and you are done!
*** Crochet a small flower or use a different embellishment for your stockings! I also like to make little owls for the baby stockings.
